Is Shea Butter Considered an Effective Treatment for Dry and Cracked Feet?

In today's world, the majority of people, regardless of their occupation, spend an enormous amount of time each day on their feet. Healthy feet are a necessity for individuals to be able to comfortably carry out their daily activities whether those are standing, walking, running, exercising, or participating in some sort of sporting event. A growing number of people are found to be suffering with dry and cracked feet as a result of poor foot care.

Not only are dry and cracked feet very unattractive but many times they are very painful and in some case deep fissures may develop. These fissures are cause intense pain and often bleed. There are many over the counter medications for treatment as well as others that can be prescribed by a physician. However, many people opt to utilize natural products for this problem. Although this may be the preferred treatment for some, others may find that it does not work for them.

Dry cracked feet can usually be effectively treated and prevented with the use of shea butter. Shea butter is a natural moisturizer that is known to be the richest emollient in the world and contains many different vitamins and nutrients with some of the following ingredients listed below:

• The agent, stigmasterol, is effective in the relaxation of muscles and may help to soothe the inflammation associated with arthritis. It may also show some healing effects for small wounds and minor burns.

• Vitamin E or tocopheryl acetate is an anitoxidant that can produce a reduction in the effects that the sun and the process of aging has on the skin. It aids in cell renewal and in the skins ability to retain moisture. Vitamin E increases the microcirculation of the skin which causes the blood supply into and away from the skin to be increased.

• Another important content is Vitamin A which produces many different improvements of the skin. It helps to reduce blemishes and wrinkles. Dermatitis and eczema may also be reduced by the Vitamin A in shea butter.

Suggested Care of Feet

With the main advantage of using shea butter being moisturization, it will treat and even prevent dry and cracked feet. Before applying, feet should be soaked, cleansed, and scrubbed properly and on a regular basis. In order to obtain the best results one should follow this regimen at least twice weekly.

Before going to bed each night, individuals should wash and thoroughly rinse and dry their feet. After which one should apply a heavy layer of some type of cream that contains shea butter and cover feet with a pair of thick socks in order for the moisturization to be locked in. These socks should be worn overnight and removed in the morning at which time any remaining moisturizer should be rubbed into the feet.

Many of the included properties of shea butter can treat certain skin conditions such as allergies, insect bites, frostbites and many more. Numerous moisturizers found in shea butter are also produced naturally by the sebaceous glands of the skin in humans.

 Several different diseases that cause dry skin can benefit from the use of shea butter such as psoriasis, keratoderma, hypothyroidism, and diabetes. Individuals should also realize that diet can have a dramatic effect on the condition of the skin and one that is high in omega 3 fatty acids will be beneficial for dry and cracked heels. Vitamins and minerals aid in producing healthy skin and if one is unable to consume an adequate diet then a supplement should be added to the diet.
